Coaches - "Virtus" Course - See below

Head Coaches and assistant coaches need to be fingerprinted by CYO every 10 years at a LiveScan location (Marin County Sheriff). In addition, all coaches need to complete  the online course  (about 30 minutes).  You must retake this course every 3 years.

Posting on 11/29/2018:

Coaches who completed the shield within the last 3 years do not need to do the VIRTUS course until it expires.  However, they do need to set up their VIRTUS account as this is where we also track fingerprints.

Each coach should print their certificate in case there is a question.  Once a person completes the course it shows in VIRTUS almost immediately, but there have been instances it has not shown completion so that would be where the certificate comes in to play.  The results have to be manually logged into our system by staff so you could finish it lindsay but if we don't enter into our system immediately it will not show until we do enter the results.

Fingerprint results again have to be entered manually and we have to wait for the person at the Archdiocese to enter into VIRTUS so we can then log bbn into our system.

I hope that answers your question.

Marin CYO BASKETBALL MEETING MINUTES -

September 26, 2018

CYO BASKETBALL MEETING MINUTES

  1. Fingerprinting/Shield course/coach compliance – All coaches must be fingerprinted and have taken the VIRTUS on line course 706(Protecting God’s Children) prior to coaching their first game or the results will be forfeited.   AD’s were informed that the VIRTUS course needs to be renewed every 3 years. Fingerprints need to be renewed every 10 years. Those renewing the VIRTUS course need to go to the league website. Click on the coaches tab and scroll down to the VIRTUS link.  The username will be their(first name.last name.sf506). The password is literally, the word password. From there the coach can change username and password. Take the course and print a certificate of completion. For new coaches, create a new account and take the course and print certificate.  It is good to have the certificate in the event we can’t find your results. Assistant coaches must also comply with these requirements. New coaches fingerprinting should use the Parish form on the website with the ATI # in the upper left hand corner 2783. Coaches from San Domenico and Mt. Tam should use the Non-Archdiocesan form with the number 8889.  There will be NO grace period for coaches. Non compliant coaches will have results forfeited! The league will open the season as soon as entries are in so AD’s can enter coaches. This gives us two months to get requirements completed and recorded provided you enter the coaches into the rosters.

  2. Pre-Game Prayer – The prayer is required to be read prior to all CYO games.  The referees have been instructed to not start the game until the prayer takes place.  However, the responsibility for this is in the hands of the teams. It is not the referee’s responsibility to lead this.

  3. Teams Entries are due by Friday, November 2 at 5:00 pm.

  4. The annual coaching clinic will take place on Sunday, November 18 at Terra Linda.  More info will be given in a few weeks re: times. There will be a live scan operator at the clinic, however, coaches should not assume they will be able to print.  Last year we printed 39 coaches and the operator stayed 40 minutes later than he was scheduled. With UPS stores and easier availability to print coaches have more options and flexibility.  Remember this is not free. Your program is billed for prints done at the clinic.

  5. Rosters are due in the roster tool by Friday, December 21.  However, coaches need to be entered after entries are turned in and you are notified the season is open on the site.

  6. The season begins on January 5 & 6

  7. The Bye week is February 16 & 17.

  8. The first playoff weekend for all teams involved in leagues with more than 1 division is March 9 & 10 and single divisions with an even number of teams or having 10 or more teams.

  9. The absolute final weekend of play is March 16 & 17.  Some single divisions may end the on March 10.

  10. If we need to play extra championship games for single division leagues they will take place March 19-21.

  11. Team Movement – With the loss of data at the end of last season, I have decided to allow AD’s to enter teams as they see fit but I will have questions for anyone who enter B teams with no A team.

  12. Thanksgiving Jamboree – November 23 – 25.  This is not a tournament so we do not have to turn teams away.  This will be a jamboree with a 3 game guarantee so coaches can evaluate their team at this early date.   You will be notified when the sign ups are live.

  13. Kevin Brown tourney info to be sent by St. Isabella.   The tourney will run December 26 & 27.

  14. Regular days teams play

    1. SAT – 4AG. 4BG, 4BB, 5BG, 5BB, 6BB, 6BG. 7BB

    2. SUN – 4AB, 5AB, 5AG, 6AB, 6AG, 7AB, 7AG, 7BG, 8AB, 8AG, 8BB, 8BG

  15. Programs reported on their tryout/evaluation dates and registration fees.

  16. There was a brief discussion about making sure we do our best to have athletes play in the proper program.  If athletes move to a bordering parish the AD’s must have communication and there must be a valid reason or the athlete must be turned away by the bordering parish.

  17. Schedules will be up on the league website by December 14 unless something unforeseen occurs.  AD’s will be notified when the schedules go up live.

  18. There was a discussion centering around the participation rule and tracking during games.  It was decided the timer would still handle this as best as possible. AD’s were instructed to make sure their coaches understand the rule and have their plan set up in advance regarding substitutions.

  19. There was discussion regarding the number of players on an A team.  It was decided teams must have 8 players on an A team roster unless the numbers do not warrant it.  Example being only one team and less than 8 sign ups or 14 players total and split into two 7 person teams.
